Mother Seton and her children came to live here on June 16, 1808. In this beautiful little Federal period house Mother Seton founded her first school for girls. During the subsequent year she took her vows as a Sister, and received the first members of her new-founded community. While living in this house she was first addressed as "Mother Seton." In June of 1809 she left for Emmitsburg where she would continue her work begun at Paca Street and where it would in time, have its full flowering.
